Don't Forget a Present for Yourself This Holiday!
While you’re busy finishing up your holiday gift-buying list, you may be forgetting one very important person—yourself!
Give Yourself a Financial Gift
Are you tired of seeing all your money going out the window this December? Start putting your money back in your pocket come January by giving yourself some well-deserved financial presents in the new year.
First, start saving for your retirement. One day, you’ll want to leave the workforce and possibly travel the world or move closer to family. Although your career might end, your need for money doesn’t. Therefore, consider opening a Traditional IRA or Roth IRA to start saving for retirement or to grow your retirement fund even further.
Second, get rid of the financial stress on your shoulders. Whether you overspent during the holidays or you have been paying the minimum on a credit card for months, 2017 is going to be the year you pay down your debt—right? Start by listing all your debts in order from least to greatest. Then start with the debt with the lowest amount. Pay the minimum amount on your other bills, then pay as much as you can on that one. Once you’ve paid off that debt, use the money you paid each month for that bill and use it to pay down your next smallest debt. When that bill is paid, move on to the next, and so on and so forth. Before you know it, the “snowball effect” will have wiped out all your debt!
